Bioethics Summer Intensive Course: ONLINE
July 20, 2020 at 9:30 AM - July 24, 2020 at 3:00 PM
July 20, 2020 — July 24, 2020
This week-long course will serve as an immersion into bioethical thinking. We will look at the historical origins of bioethical issues in America, as well as the fundamental nature of the types of questions asked in bioethics, namely, having to do with human life, health, birth, and death. Our main focus will be on applying the thought of St. John Paul II concerning the human person as a lens through which to view bioethical questions: assisted reproduction, end-of-life decision-making, allocation of scarce resources in epidemics, etc. Through readings, morning lectures, and afternoon discussions/short reflections, the course aims at not only providing a historical and theoretical background, but also at equipping students to think about issues in bioethics through the lens of St. John Paul II and the Church.
The course meets Monday through Friday, July 20-24, 9:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., and 1:30-3:00 p.m.
