Philosophy, Revelation, and the Christening of Thought

February 6, 2025 at 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM

The  Pontifical John Paul II Institute cordially invites you to a lecture by philosopher William Desmond on Thursday, February 6, at 4:00 p.m. Dr. Desmond, who is Professor Emeritus of Philosophy at the Catholic University of Leuven and holds the David R. Cook Chair in Philosophy at Villanova University, will speak on “Philosophy, Revelation, and the Christening of Thought.”

Dr. Desmond will offer reflections on the diverse relations possible between philosophy and Christianity in the light of Revelation. His lecture will address some traditional mediations of philosophy and Christianity and will also reflect on the significance of postmodern projects to de-Christianize Western culture, as well as philosophy. In the light of these reflections, is it still possible to speak of a Christening of thought? If possible, what might this be like?

The lecture will be followed by a reception.
